The future of cancer care

Re-imagining Innovation & Delivery
There are four drivers for the future of cancer care. Innovation in technology from diagnostics to novel therapies clearly drives change. They will shift metastatic cancer into a chronic controllable disease. Wearables, virtual consultations, artificial intelligence and globalisation will change the way in which cancer care is delivered - much closer to home in pleasant hotel like structures. But paying for cancer care in a predominantly older population will become a major issue for society. We will have to explore the way in which we pay for high cost interventions in people with low life expectancy. Tax based payors and insurers will question whether spending ums of up to £500K on novel therapies for patients in their 80's is a worthwhile investment.
