Improving cancer outcomes in the NHS

19 May 2022
Clinical Priorities
As part of this informative session, Peter will provide an overview of progress being made against the NHS Long Term Plan ambitions for cancer services. He will set out how the NHS is ensuring cancer services are able to rise to the challenge of the 12 months of record levels of urgent referrals we’ve seen, and why we’re determined to continue to driving those numbers up as we seek to eradicate the shortfall in the total number of patients who’ve begun cancer treatment since the beginning of the pandemic compared with usual levels, through proactive case-finding initiatives and expanded public awareness campaigns. And he will focus on earlier diagnosis initiatives including expansion of the Target Lung Health Checks programme, a new initiative on liver cancer, and accelerated roll out of new pathways for people with symptoms not specific to one type of cancer.
