Dr Matt Kearney

Programme Director for CVD Prevention and Proactive Care, UCLPartners
Dr Matt Kearney is the Programme Director for Primary Care Innovation at UCLPartners, leading a programme to effectively manage patients with long term conditions. Matt was the National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention between 2016 and 2019. In this joint role with NHS England and Public Health England, he conceived and led development of the NHS Long Term Plan CVD prevention programme. Implementing this across the UCLPartners population of six million people will prevent around 12,000 heart attacks and strokes over 10 years by optimising the detection and management of the high risk conditions – atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Matt continues to practise as a part time GP. Previously he worked as clinical and public health advisor to the Department of Health respiratory programme and led development of the first Respiratory Atlas of Variation. He was a member of the NICE Public Health Interventions Advisory Committee from 2005 to 2013 developing evidence based prevention guidelines for front line professionals. Matt has a Master’s Degree in Public Health and is a Fellow of both the Royal College of GPs and the Royal College of Physicians.
