Harminder Bains

Programme Lead – Primary and Integrated Care, Health Education England
A working mum to two lovely young girls Harminder has a keen interest in education and the impact this has on social change. Harminder has over 20 years experience in education beginning her career lecturing Business and Marketing to learners in further and higher education. Her career spans across teaching, designing curriculum in particular vocational education and she now strategically drives education and training in healthcare. Having worked with sector skills council, educational providers and employers creating vocational programmes, Harminder was integral in rolling out vocational credit based learning as part of an educational reform programme working for the national Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency. Working closely with NHS organisation Harminder became interested in working within the healthcare system identifying how education could reform the NHS workforce. Her current role as a Programme Lead in the Primary and Integrated care focuses on how Health Education England can support the manifesto commitment supporting an additional 26K workforce entering primary care. Some of these key roles are personalised care roles in particular Social Prescribing Link workers. Education being a key cornerstone of all her work experiences Harminder identifies how education helps with social change. Having lived experience of how education has benefitted her before entering the world of work being the first generation in her family to get a degree she will continue to drive these benefits. Harminder also volunteers her time as a Vice Chair at Gateway College.
